The Headcanon
Name: Liam Lunettes (AU)
Age: 30
History: (Fics)
Cliffnotes version (I don’t blame, that first fic is long):
This Liam hails from a completely AU world where he didn’t survive the encounter with Lily and died of blood loss. After his death his Break grants the Will of the Abyss’ wish (which, in this world, is to no longer be alone in the Abyss) by managing to assemble the scattered parts of Jack Vessalius’ soul and body, bringing him back to life. Before Jack and the Will return to the Abyss Break asks one more wish from her, namely that Liam be brought back to life. Not that time be changed, just that he be brought back.
The Will, perhaps in a good mood that day, warns him there will be a price but does it when Break states he doesn’t care. Liam is brought back to life in one piece --Bandersnatch had torn him up pretty badly-- but by no means completely healed from the event that killed him. The price turns out to be a switch of Break and Liam’s eyes, rendering Liam blind but Break able to see again. As if to make up for this the Will ‘fixes’ some of the failing organs inside Break, giving him longer to live. With that she returns to the Abyss with Jack and they seal it behind them. Chains can no longer escape though the contracts current still hold unless forcibly broken.
Liam spends sometime sleeping to recover from his remaining wounds but on waking he and Break have a very intense conversation on why exactly Break brought him back to life. After much prodding from Liam Break admits that he has feelings for Liam, which he only fully realized after Liam’s death. Since Liam freely admits to similar feelings this ends well. This is the first step in their relationship which will continue to develop over the next few years.
Pandora is next thing to defunct with the sealing of the Abyss and there are few illegal contractors left to catch. But without access to the Abyss Liam cannot re-contract March Hare and thus he has no Chain related help to his blindness. He has been rendered completely blind but with Break’s help manages well enough. With his death his contracts of service to both Barma and Pandora are severed so there is little need for his service. He was taken in by the Rainsworth household (Break’s severing of Barma’s hand with the Mad Hatter led to Barma keeping his distance from the two) and he now serves the Rainsworth house in a capacity similar to Break. His current duty to watch over Sharon’s son, which will likely be her only son considering her permanent young state, during the night when there are likely to be attempts on his life. Despite being unable to see no assassins have made it past him to date. He and Break are happily in a fully committed relationship and are quite content with whatever amount of time remains to them.
Appearance:
Liam is older than canon Liam, he counts his age as about thirty even though being dead put a question mark into working out his exact age. His experience with dying has left several visible marks on him, the most notable being his eyes. He has Break’s single red eye, the other empty socket is cover with an eyepatch. Underneath that the eyelids have been sewn shut since Liam stated he didn’t want to have a false eye and he was warned that leaving it be like Break had done was asking for an infection. He also has several scars from Bandersnatch’s damage to his body, which was mostly mended by the Will. There is a faint scar next to his nose, scars around each finger, a deep scar around his left shoulder, along with the scars most Liams have on their hip and leg. He does favor his leg slightly but overall it doesn’t give him much trouble.
Because of his blindness Liam carries a cane with which to poke and prod at things so he doesn’t run into as many obstacles. He also keeps his hair longer than most Liams, almost long enough to brush his shoulders. A few of his coats bear the Rainsworth crest instead of the Barma or Pandora crest to show his allegiance to that household.
Personality:
Having gone to the afterlife and back has had a great mellowing effect on Liam. After going through the experience of dying terribly and adjusting to being blind very little is worrying enough to make him go faily and hysterical like he used to. This is a quieter, more thoughtful Liam, who is content to stay on the sidelines of matters and simply listen in. This is somewhat by necessity and a little due to the fact he’s a little shy about his blindness. While he doesn’t go to Break’s extremes to hide it --Liam’s vision is completely gone so he would have trouble following Break’s method-- he doesn’t immediately admit that he’s blind. If asked outright he will admit it but it isn’t information he volunteers without prompting. He’ll try to manage without help for as long as he can, even if he does need it, because he sees asking for help as admitting weakness. His own Break is the only exception to this because he’s his partner and he doesn’t feel guilty for asking for his help.
Quirks:
Even though he can’t see Liam still enjoys books and libraries, if he can find braille books he’ll read them quite eagerly (his world’s Sharon has made a hobby of translating books into braille in her free time for him). Since they’re quiet and out of the way he tends to spend a lot of time in libraries.
He keeps his cane with him at all times. Without it it’s much harder for him to navigate so he gets a little worried when it’s out of his hand. Taking it from him will upset him a lot, though he would try to hide it as much as he could so as not to give the person who took it more ammunition to use against him.
